Ways to give

Choose the approach that fits your goals.

Each option below is explained in plain language. Our team can walk you through the details and work alongside your advisors.

A way to give that pays you income

Charitable remainder unitrust (CRUT)

You transfer cash, securities, or other assets into an irrevocable trust. The trust pays you, or people you name, a fixed percentage of its value each year, recalculated annually, for life or for a term of up to 20 years. When the trust ends, the remainder goes to the charity or charities you chose.

  • Income that can grow as the value of the trust grows
  • A partial income tax deduction in the year you fund the trust
  • Appreciated assets can be sold inside the trust without immediate capital gains tax

Give alongside other donors

Pooled income fund

Your gift is combined with gifts from other donors and invested together, similar to a mutual fund. You receive units in the fund and a proportional share of its net income for life. Afterward, your share of the fund supports Animal Relief Network.

  • Income for you or a loved one for life
  • A charitable income tax deduction in the year of your gift
  • No need to set up or manage your own trust

Give more than cash

Gifts of complex assets

Our team specializes in helping donors contribute complex assets, with customized plans developed through enhanced contribution consultations. We review each potential gift with you and your advisors.

  • Publicly traded securities
  • Real estate
  • Privately held business interests
  • Other appreciated assets

Recommend a grant from your fund

Donor-advised fund grants

If you have a donor-advised fund, you can recommend a grant to Animal Relief Network through your fund’s sponsor. You’ll need our legal name and EIN.

Gifts in your will or trust

You can name Animal Relief Network in your will or living trust, or as a beneficiary of a retirement account, life insurance policy, or bank or brokerage account. Many donors find a beneficiary designation is the simplest way to start, since it usually requires only a form from your provider.

Sample bequest language

I give to Animal Relief Network, a Texas nonprofit organization with principal offices at 3800 N Lamar Blvd., 2nd Fl, Ste. 200, Austin, TX 78756, EIN 33-3924217, [the sum of $____ / ____% of my estate / the residue of my estate] for its general charitable purposes.

Please review any language with your attorney. If you’d like to let us know about your plans, we’d be honored to thank you. Sharing is always optional.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Don’t see your question? Email [email protected] or call +1 (512) 655-3251.

Can I receive income from my gift?

Yes. A charitable remainder unitrust or a pooled income fund can pay income to you, or to people you name, while ultimately supporting charity. The amount depends on the vehicle you choose, the value of your gift, and investment performance.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Animal Relief Network is a 501(c)(3) public charity, so gifts are generally deductible to the extent allowed by law. For life income gifts, the deduction is usually based on the projected value of what will eventually pass to charity, not the full amount you contribute. Your tax advisor can explain how this applies to you.

Do I need an attorney or financial advisor?

For trusts, estate gifts, and complex assets, we strongly recommend it. We’re glad to work alongside the professionals you already trust.

Can I choose which cause my gift supports?

Yes. Tell us which project or area of work matters most to you and we’ll direct your gift accordingly. If a designated program can no longer use a gift, we apply it to a closely related purpose within our mission.

What information does my advisor need?

Our legal name (Animal Relief Network), our EIN (33-3924217), and our address (3800 N Lamar Blvd., 2nd Fl, Ste. 200, Austin, TX 78756). For anything else, they can email [email protected].

Can I change my mind later?

Gifts in a will and beneficiary designations can generally be updated at any time. Charitable remainder trusts and pooled income fund gifts are irrevocable once completed, so it’s important to plan carefully with your advisors.
